Yikes, it’s been uncharacteristically warm! 90+! Bleh! The rapidly-melting snow capping the mountains has never looked so inviting.
I do not have A/C in the Scamp. I was more worried about being cold than hot! So what do I do besides weep and sweat in dismay?
I think a small window A/C unit would be a good investment. Unfortunately there are no A/Cs R Us close by. 🙁
The nearest bigger-box store is 100 miles away so I went scavenging to see what I had on hand that might help!
I took the silver accordion-fold windshield sunblocker from the van and placed it in the big window on the west side of the Scamp. I took a blanket also out of the van, folded that to size and hung it in the east big window, fastening it behind the curtains with clips. That helps block the heat from the sun beating in those two windows, just like it would in your car.
I opened the remaining side & door jalousie windows for a cross breeze. I set my electric fan in one of the side windows.
I do have a roof vent. I opened it and criss-crossed two mini bungee cords in an X across the screen. I then took one of my small battery fans and tucked it face-up into the crossed bungee cords. Presto! A make-do roof fan. Geez, I wish I could post pictures!
A tip: Some of the handiest things I’ve got along have proven to be the canister of mini bungee-cords and a bag of multi-colored metal chip-type clips I found at a bed and bath store.
I suppose it’s weather-events like this that are sounding the death knell for the glacier remnants in this park. By 2030, no glacier remnants are expected to be left here. If you want to see them, better make those plans.
I bet there will still be bears though!
