Yikes. What a busy month! Blog updates for this last week have been delayed this week due to having some company over for the weekend and sheer…busy-ness since the countdown clock to Glacier National Park is ticking!
The planned “Creative Space Manipulation” post continuation which I was going to do this week is now also delayed.
About 45 minutes ago I heard a loud *BANG!!* After Maggie, Georgie and I all patted our hair back down on our heads, I rushed outside thinking perhaps a propane tank had exploded or something.
Nope. It was one of my brand-new camper tires. It has blown the sidewall just…sitting there. UGHHH. I have since checked and the other one is also bubbled on the sidewall. Not good, not happy. I just had these put on last week, and brought the camper back home and it’s just been hanging out here.
These are ST (trailer tires) 175/80/R13; they are on a 13′ Scamp camper, which I have NOT filled with bricks, cement or lead bars. They have an even higher load rating than the previous set.
I have spoken to my Scamp camper and he’s assured me he hasn’t been doing jumping jacks or weight-training13!
The phone went immediately to my ear. I called the tire store. They are going to send someone out (which they usually don’t do) within the next day or two to pull the tire off and see what the hell is going on. I’m pretty sure this is a manufacturer-defect.
We’ll have to discuss options. With the other tire also bubbling, I’m afraid I can’t trust even a replacement set of these! The damage they could cause to the Scamp’s fiberglass, should they fail again at highway speeds could be substantial. I guess it’s actually pretty fortunate that if the tires were going to fail, it happened here instead of on the highway at 62 mph.
I’m going to do a posting ‘no-no’ right now and not have any pictures up immediately with the post; I may come back in and edit that if I can get some time!
