After some years at performing one of the top 10 deadliest jobs in the US according to Forbes, I was stressed and seriously sick.
During a recovery phase lasting over a year and a half, I had time to do something that I wasn’t used to doing: think without being stressed!
I noticed the birds outside my window and the alternating smells of rain and sunshine in the air; I could enjoy the little things. To my surprise, I felt happy. It wasn’t something that I was used to feeling!
Many things changed. One very important realization became clear: we weren’t having nearly enough fun. This needed to change.
When I was able to, we set off on our grand adventure. We loaded all of our belongings into a U haul trailer and set off for an unknown town in the beginnings of the ‘wild west’.
Although we’ve alighted temporarily after having rambled around out here, we’re not done yet.
Many people have forgotten how to have fun and they don’t know how to think without the effects of stress, as stress and negativity are peddled at every turn. It takes a concentrated effort to get around this. I am an HSP, so it’s been especially difficult.
- Figure out what makes you truly happy. If it’s not harming another, pursue it!
- The life and dreams that you’re sold are not necessarily the ones you have to eventually buy. Read this one again!
- Only you can change your situation.

HSP sidenote: A person with heightened sensitivity, in a nutshell, has their nervous system intake and processing dial turned way up, almost like a human antenna. The nervous system is spinal cord and brain based. An HSP is able to sense something often times before it become apparent to others. It’s a biological, genetic trait that affects 15-20% of the population overall. An HSP’s nervous system is always working and processing input. The upside to this? We are highly empathic “canaries in a coalmine” in our detection abilities of moods or sensing the general nature of things. We tend to take in and notice many details. The downside? There is no ‘off switch’. For some of us, we can spend a large part of our lives with PTSD-type symptoms from system overload. It is difficult to function in a world of which 80% isn’t designed for you. HSPs usually need a lot of alone time to recharge.
The voice of Stevie Nicks is actually able to actually calm down my nervous system. She’s literally soothing to me; something in her pitch or tone is just right to do it, I’m not sure. When I was small and first heard her voice singing on my little transistor radio, I knew I really liked her but I didn’t know why.
